Leyla園長先生はアゼルバイジャン出身です。大学では国際法と、英語ロシア語の通訳の2つを専攻し、飛び級で20歳で大学を卒業しました。卒業後は、アゼルバイジャンの首都にある伊藤忠で数年間働きながら、教員免許も取得しました。母が教員で校長先生まで勤め上げたこともあり、彼女はずっと教育に興味を持っていました。 2004年に日本へ移住し、つくば市内のインターナショナル幼稚園で働き始めました。いつか自分の幼稚園を開くという夢を持ちました。日本の子どもたちにはどのような幼稚園が最適であるかを理解するため、幼稚園から中学校までさまざまな施設で教師として働き、12年以上経験を積みました。色々な教育方法を学ぶ中で、モンテッソーリ教育法に出会い、この教育法こそが最も効果的だと感じました。 それからカナダの北アメリカ・モンテッソーリセンターで学び、0歳から3歳および3歳から6歳の認定モンテッソーリ教師の資格取得、2017年に自分の学校を開きました。 オフには、家族との外出や子どもたちとボードゲームを楽しむ時間を大切にしています。また、約20年間サルサ教室に通っています。
Originally from Azerbaijan, Leyla graduated from university at the age of 20 with 2 majors: International Law and interpreter of English to Russian. After obtaining her diploma she worked in her home city at a Japanese global trading company for several years and simultaneously completed her teaching license. Since her mother was a teacher and a principal, she was always interested in teaching. In 2004, she moved to Japan and began working at an international kindergarten in Tsukuba. Opening her own kindergarten was always a dream, but for a better understanding of what type of kindergarten would work best for Japanese students, she decided to work as a teacher at different facilities throughout kindergarten to Junior High schools, which she did for more than 12 years. Of all the teaching methods, Leyla chose to implement the Montessori method for her kindergarten, as in her experience working with Japanese children, this method proved the most effective. After completing her studies with the North American Montessori Center in Canada and becoming a certified Montessori teacher for ages 0 to 3 and 3 to 6, she opened her own school in 2017. Leyla enjoys spending her free time on outings with her family, or playing tabletop games with her children. She has also been practicing salsa for almost 20 years.

カナダ出身のDavid先生は2009年に来日し、これまで幼児英語教育に尽力してきました。彼の幼児教育に対するアプローチは、幼い子どもたちに対してこれまであまり注目されてこなかったり、見過ごされがちな知識や概念に早い段階で触れることを大切にしています。 彼は、クラシック音楽のような芸術を取り扱ったり、蒸気機関車のような複雑な構造について触れることが、子どもの創造性や好奇心を大いに広げると信じており、幼い心を刺激するために、楽しくて驚くべきトピックやアクティビティを常に探求しています。想像力豊かで工作が得意な彼は年長クラスの先生であり、アフタースクールプログラムではSTEMや他の科目を教えています。彼はイベントの主な企画者でもあります。 プライベートでは、様々な活動に取り組んでいますが、一番の楽しみは気のおけない仲間たちとコンピュータゲームやボードゲームをすることです。また、ゲーセンゲームのコレクターでもあります。
David is a Canadian who has lived in Japan since 2009, and has been teaching English to preschool children for nearly the duration of his stay. Due to his creative disposition and years of experience teaching, his approach to early childhood education is one that encourages early exposure to knowledge and concepts that are often overlooked or undervalued for young children. David believes that the introduction to fine arts, such as classical music, or even a rudimentary understanding of complex machines, like the steam engine, can greatly expand a child’s creative potential and he is in constant pursuit of fun and awe-inspiring topics and activities to help stimulate young minds. He is the main teacher of our graduating preschool class, and teaches STEM and other subjects for our After School programs. David is also the primary organizer and contributor for school events at First Steps. In his free time, David engages in a wide variety of hobbies, but enjoys best the kind of activities that involve friendly competition and social engagement, such as video games or board games. He is also an avid collector and enthusiast of arcade cabinets.

Originally from Florida, the United States, Ridge has dedicated over a year to honing teaching skills and immersing in the rich cultural tapestry of Japan. Possessing a TEFL certificate and a degree in English Literature from Indian River College he brings a wealth of academic and professional experience to the table. With nearly a decade of diverse work experience spanning industries such as service, construction, marketing, and education, he also cultivates a versatile skill set. Proficient in child needs assessment, effective communication, and adept conflict resolution, he has earned accolades for their quality-oriented approach from both educators and colleagues alike. Ridge’s commitment to personal and professional growth is evident in their continuous pursuit of excellence and this is especially demonstrated in his extracurricular activities such as painting, fishing, various water activities, painting and playing video games or board games.

まさみ先生は日本出身ですが、ご両親の仕事の都合により、3歳でシンガポール、8歳でドイツ、11歳で中国、14歳でイギリスに、と様々な国で育ちました。ウェールズのカーディフ大学でドイツ語を含む欧州連合研究の学士号を取得した後、イギリスのブリストル市で保険会社に就職しました。24歳で日本に帰国し、日本語を学習する決意をしました。日本に足を踏み入れた瞬間から、彼女は流暢に日本語を話せるようになることを決意しました。 3年後、彼女はJLPTの最高レベルに合格しました。大学３年生の時、ドイツの高校で英語教育の教員助手として務めた際に初めて教育に対する情熱を見出し、英語を外国語として教えることに専念する決断をしました。言語に対する一般的な哲学は、言語はお互いをよりよく理解するための最強なコミュニケーションツールであり、より良いコミュニケーションを通じて寛容な社会を築くことができるというものです。 2024年7月に保育士の資格を獲得し、今も知識向上のための努力を続けています。彼女は自由な時間に新しい言語を学ぶことを楽しみ、さまざまな文化の知識を広げるために世界を旅しています。
Masami is originally from Japan, but has an interesting upbringing. Her parents’ business took her to Singapore at the age of three, Germany at eight, China at eleven and the United Kingdom at fourteen. After obtaining a Bsc(econ) in European Union Studies with German language from Cardiff University in Wales, she landed her first graduate job in insurance in Bristol, England. At 24, she finally returned to Japan to retrace her heritage and master the Japanese language. As soon as she set foot in Japan, she was determined to be fluent in Japanese. Three years later, she passed the highest level of the JLPT. She first found her passion in teaching after teaching English in a high school in Germany as a Teaching Assistant during her year abroad, which encouraged her to dedicate the majority of her career to teaching English as a foreign language. Her general philosophy towards languages is that it is a powerful communication tool to better understand each other and through better communication are we able to have a tolerant society. She obtained the national license to work as a nursery school teacher in July 2024 and still strives for knowledge. She therefore enjoys learning new languages in her free time and travel the world to expand her knowledge of various cultures.

みゆき先生は2006年にカナダで英語を学びました。スプロット・ショー・コミュニティ・カレッジに2年半通い、幼児教育の資格を取得しました。カリキュラムの開発、指導とケア、健康・安全、栄養など、子どもの成長と発達に必要な知識を習得しました。 子どもたちには無限の可能性があると信じており、子どもが理解しやすいアプローチで自分の考えを持ち自信を持たせることにより、その可能性を引き出せるよう努力しています。遊びや社会性の価値の重要性を認識しており、これが子どもたちの他者の気持ちや物に対する理解と尊重を促進すると考えています。彼女は子どもたちが笑顔で学ぶ手助けをすることに喜びを感じています。 現在、2人の娘の母親で、料理をしたり映画を見たり、ゲームをしたり、家族と過ごすのが大好きです。
Miyuki studied English in Canada in 2006 and attended Sprott-Shaw Community College for two and half years, where she obtained her ECE certification. Her studies involved curriculum development, guidance and care, health-safety and nutrition, and other essential facets of childhood growth and development. Through gentle communication and encouragement to use their own initiative and take risks in creative ways, she believes that children have unlimited potential; and she strives to bring out that potential as much as possible. Recognizing the value of play and social interaction, which promotes a child’s understanding and respect for others’ feelings and property, she finds joy in helping children learn with a smile. She is currently a mother of two girls, and loves to cook, watch movies, play games, and spend time with her family.

さとみ先生はサウスイーストミズーリ州立大学で音楽、芸術、コンピュータサイエンスの理学士を取得しました。卒業後、企業や研究室で他国の開発者や研究者と一緒に研究に励みました。 彼女が子供を持ち専業主婦になると、子どもたちに英語を教えることに興味を持つようになりました。名古屋でECCジュニアホームティーチャーとして、自身の２人の娘は然り近所の2歳から14歳の子どもたちへ6年間英語を教えていました。つくばへ引っ越した直後、我々のチームの一員となり、2023年1月に保育士の資格を取得しました。彼女はチームワークとよいコミュニケーションを常に意識し、先生たちを手助けしています。 趣味は、ジャズピアノを弾いたり、ジムで運動したり、犬のお散歩です。
Satomi graduated from Southeast Missouri State University with a Bachelor of Science in music, art and Computer Science. She worked with developers and researchers from different countries at a company and a research center. When she became a full time mother raising her own children, she became interested in teaching English to children. As an ECC Junior Home Teacher, she taught English to children between 2-14 in her neighborhood in Nagoya including her two daughters for 6 years until she moved to Tsukuba. She obtained a certificate in childcare in January 2023. She realizes the importance of teamwork and communication and she always assist all teachers with that in mind. In her spare time, she enjoys playing jazz piano, working out at the gym and walking her dog.

東洋大学の学士を取得したともみ先生は、卒業後、数字の世界に身を置くことになりました。世界中で知られている保険会社などのさまざまな企業での経験は充実しており、成長の機会となりました。 結婚し、母親としての旅が始まると、教育の世界にも目を向けるようになりました。自分の子どもの成長を見守る中で、モンテッソーリ教育法に強く惹かれ、千葉にあるモンテッソーリ幼稚園へ息子を入園させました。彼女は、一人一人の子どもが生まれながらに素晴らしい特性を持っていることに魅了され、その特性を育む手助けができる分野で働きたいと考えるようになりました。 2023年には保育士の国家資格を取得し、それ以来子どもたちと共に過ごしています。彼女は家族と一緒にキャンプをしたり、食事を共にする時間を楽しんでいます。また、訪れる寺院ごとに御朱印を集めるのも好きです。
After graduating from Toyo University with a degree , Tomomi has found herself in the world of business, primarily working with numbers. Her journey of working in various companies including a global insurance company had been rewarding and the experience has certainly been an opportunity for growth. After getting married and her journey through motherhood began, she began to explore the world of education. She immediately was drawn to the Montessori method as she observed her own child’s development and placed him in a Montessori school in Chiba. She became fascinated with how each individual possesses qualities, which have been gifted from birth and wanted to work in a field where she can help develop these qualities from an early age. She obtained the national license in childcare in 2023 and has been working with children since. Tomomi enjoys getting a lot of family time such as camping and dining together. She also likes to collect stamps from each temple she visits.

サウスカロライナ州チャールストン出身のローラ先生は2020年に日本へ移住してきました。日本に来る前から教育へ関心があり、識字支援プログラムでのボランティア活動を通して、一人ひとりの子どもたちの読み書きをサポートしてきました。その経験から、学習の過程において自信、励まし、そして好奇心がいかに重要であるかを実感しました。 来日後は、インターナショナルナーサリースクールで幼児教育に携わり、豊富な経験を積んできました。子どもたちが安心して自分を表現し、新しいことに挑戦し、英語学習に前向きな姿勢を育めるような環境づくりを大切にしています。彼女は、子どもたち一人ひとりがそれぞれのペースで学んでいくと考えています。また、学力を伸ばすことと同じくらい、信頼関係や自信を育むことが重要だと信じています。学びを魅力的なものにしながら、子どもたちが好奇心と意欲を持って周りの世界を探求できるよう促しています。 休日には読書を楽しんだり、旦那さんと一緒につくば市内をサイクリングしたり、2匹の愛犬と過ごしたりしています。
Laura is originally from Charleston, South Carolina, and moved to Japan in 2020. Her interest in education began before moving to Japan through volunteer work with a literacy support program, where she worked one-on-one with children to help develop their reading and writing skills. Through this experience, she discovered how important confidence, encouragement, and curiosity are in the learning process. Since coming to Japan, Laura has gained experience working with young children in an international nursery school environment. She enjoys creating a warm and supportive atmosphere where children feel comfortable expressing themselves, trying new things, and developing a positive attitude toward learning English. Laura believes that each child learns at their own pace and that building trust and confidence is just as important as developing academic skills. She strives to make learning engaging and enjoyable while encouraging children to explore the world around them with curiosity and enthusiasm. In her free time, Laura enjoys reading, biking around Tsukuba with her husband and spending time with her two dogs.

リズは幼児から大人まで幅広い年齢層を対象に、10年以上にわたり英語教育に携わってきた経験豊富な教師です。韓国の成均館大学校（Sungkyunkwan University）で英語教育学の修士号を取得しています。これまでの国際的なキャリアの中で、オランダ、シンガポール、デンマーク、日本にて、大学、語学学校、インターナショナルスクール、バイリンガルプログラムなどで教育に携わってきました。教育の道を歩み始める前は、KLMオランダ航空の客室乗務員および英語通訳として勤務し、高いコミュニケーション能力と異文化理解力を培いました。 現在は日本のインターナショナルアカデミーおよびインターナショナルスクールで教鞭を執り、体験型学習を通して子どもたちの学びを深めることを大切にしている、明るく情熱的な教師です。また、3人の子どもの母親として、一人ひとりの個性や成長段階を理解し、子どもたちが自信を育み、自分の強みを発見し、可能性を最大限に伸ばせるようサポートすることに喜びを感じています。 趣味は旅行、料理、そして家族と過ごす時間です。豊富な国際経験と教育的な専門知識、そして教育への情熱を活かし、First Steps Montessoriのすべての子どもたちが学び、成長し、輝けるよう支援できることを楽しみにしています。
Liz has over 10 years of experience in English education, teaching learners from preschool children to adults. She holds a master's degree in English Education from Sungkyunkwan University in South Korea. Her international career has taken her to the Netherlands, Singapore, Denmark, and Japan, where she has worked in universities, language institutes, international schools, and bilingual programs. Before becoming an educator, she worked as a flight attendant and English interpreter for KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, gaining valuable communication and cross-cultural skills. Now teaching at an international academy and an international school in Japan, Liz is an energetic and enthusiastic teacher who loves engaging children through hands-on learning. As a mother of three, she understands each child's unique needs and enjoys helping children build confidence, discover their strengths, and reach their full potential. In her free time, Liz enjoys traveling, cooking, and spending time with her family. With her international experience, educational background, and passion for teaching, she is excited to support every child at First Steps Montessori as they learn, grow, and thrive.

アメリカ開拓者の長い系譜を受け継ぎ、カナダ育ちのネイスンは、ファーストステップスの優秀なチームに、持ち前の行動力とチャレンジ精神をもたらしています。彼は10年以上にわたり、つくば市を拠点とする商品撮影・イベント撮影スタジオを運営してきました。その運営に必要な技術的スキルやビジネスの知恵は、すべて独学で身につけたものです。それ以前は、ソウルの私立学校向けの英語教育のカリキュラム開発に携わり、また早稲田大学の複数の教授への指導も行っていました。 これらの経験を通して彼は、「学びは生涯にわたって続けるものだ」ということを実感しました。大切なのは、どのように学びを促し続けるかという点です。脳は常に挑戦し、成長する機会を必要としています。モンテッソーリ教育が重視する算数や読み書きの基礎学習は、子どもたちの思考力を大きく伸ばす絶好の土台となります。彼は、すべての子どもたちが自分と同じように意欲的であり、そしてそれ以上に学ぶ力を持っていると信じています。モンテッソーリ教育が与える自由な環境は、それぞれの子どもが持つ探究心を自然に引き出してくれます。彼の最大の願いは、子どもたちが自らの可能性を自由に探求し、自分の能力に誇りを持ちながら成長していくことです。 そこで彼自身も家族のためにログハウスを建てることを目指して、この数年間熱心に取り組んでいます。それは北欧のルーツへの敬意を表すだけでなく、彼の趣味が実践的な技術へと成長した証にもなるとの考えから始めたことです。
Extracted from a long line of American pioneers, Nathan brings a plucky demeanour to First Steps’s talented team (not to mention a Canadian penny with his thoughts). For over a decade he operated a Tsukuba-based product and event photography studio, the technical skills and business knowledge necessary for running the operation he acquired himself. Before that he designed curricula for private school networks in Seoul and tutored several Waseda professors. Those experiences proved to him that learning keeps going way after school ends. How learning is encouraged is what is most important. The brain really needs to stretch. Montessori’s focus on the fundamentals of maths and reading provides a great (and brainy) stretching ground. Nathan believes that every child is as plucky and at least as capable of learning as he is. The freedom afforded by the Montessori system encourages exploration within each child. Nathan’s greatest desire is to help children freely explore their potential and take pride in their abilities now and in the future. Speaking of the future, in the next few years Nathan hopes to put up a log house for his family. This not only gives a nod to his Scandinavian heritage, but will prove just how well his favourite hobby has become an actionable skill.
