エレメンタリーコースについて
保護者の皆様から、「卒園後も英語教育を継続してほしい」というご要望を数多くいただいたことにより、2021年にエレメンタリーコース（小学生コース）を設立いたしました。現在、本校には6歳から12歳までの小学生が在籍しています。
つくば市には数多くの英語学校がありますが、どこよりも優れた英語学習に適した環境を提供できるよう努めております。6歳頃を過ぎると、子どもたちはより高度な自己認識を持つようになり、周囲の環境に対する意識も高まります。そして、幼い頃に身につけた英語力を使う機会が少なくなり、実際に使う必要性がないことに気づくと、無意識のうちにその言語を「必要のないもの」と認識してしまうことがあります。本校では、日常的に英語を使える環境を提供することで、言語喪失（language attrition：習得した言語を忘れてしまうこと）しないようサポートしています。言語は、最後に使った時からわずか6か月ほどで失うと言われております。幼児から積み重ねてきた英語力を失わないように、本校に通っている多くの生徒は週5日通学し、仲間と学び、遊び、教師と交流することで、常に積極的に英語を話せる環境を大切にしております。

モンテッソーリ英語 14:30~15:30
読み書きの能力の向上に関して、私たちはキンダーガーテンプログラムに取り入れているモンテッソーリ教育法が最も効果的であると考えています。生徒たちはスクールに来たら、まず最初にモンテッソーリ式の「おしごと」に取り組みます。私たちは読解やライティングの教材を用意しており、それらを「おしごと」と呼んでいます。生徒一人ひとりが自分自身の目標を設定し、その目標に向かって主体的に取り組み、達成できるよう促しています。
おやつ 15:00~15:30
おやつの時間は原則15:00となります。お子さまによってご都合や登校スケジュールが異なりますが、それ以降に登校したお子さまは、到着次第おやつを食べることができます。おやつは各ご家庭でご持参いただいておりますが、お忘れの場合は、追加料金にてご用意することも可能です。
プレレッスン・アクティビティー 15:30~17:00
モンテッソーリ教育を実践するスクールとして、私たちは異年齢の子どもたちが共に学ぶことを教育の重要な要素と考えています。異年齢の環境は、仲間を意識しながら、互いを尊重する学習環境を育みます。年上の生徒は年下の生徒をサポートすることで、自身の知識をより深く定着させるとともに、思いやりの心を育みます。
一方、年下の生徒は自分の発達段階に合った刺激や学びを得ることができます。生徒たちは登校後、英語のワークを終えると、年齢や英語力に関係なく全員がプレレッスン活動に参加します。これは学習の合間のリフレッシュの時間であり、安全で整えられた環境の中で遊びながら交流する機会となっています。これらの活動を通して、生徒たちが英語で自分の考えや気持ちを表現できるよう支援します。
体を動かす活動
活動内容には、スポーツ、基礎的なヨガ（バランス感覚の向上や柔軟性の向上）、そしてチームワークを育むためのさまざまな取り組みが含まれています。生徒たちは楽しみながら体を動かし、健康な身体づくりと協調性を身につけていきます。
ボードゲーム
ペアやグループで楽しめるさまざまなボードゲームを用意しています。英語を使ったボードゲームをはじめ、チェス、トランプゲームなど、多彩なゲームを楽しむことができます。これらのゲームを通して、生徒たちはルールを守ることの大切さやフェアプレーの精神、問題解決力や論理的思考力、戦略的に考える力を養っていきます。また、友達と協力したり競い合ったりする中で、コミュニケーション能力や社会性も自然と身につけることができます。
工作
切る・貼る・色を塗るといったシンプルな工作から、普段あまり使用する機会のない画材や工作道具を使って作品を制作するものまで、さまざまです。これらの活動を通して、生徒たちは創造力や表現力を育むとともに、手先の器用さや集中力を高めていきます。また、自分だけの作品を作り上げ、自由な発想を形にする楽しさを学ぶことができます。
エレメンタリーコースのレッスン 17:00~18:20
当校のエレメンタリーコース（小学生コース）は、一般的な「英語の授業」とは異なります。レッスンは、英語を使いながら子どもたちの知的好奇心を育み、学びを深めることを目的として設計されています。幼児コースと同様に、多くの教科はカナダのNorth American Montessori Centerのカリキュラムを基にしています。歴史、生物学、地理、STEM（科学・技術・工学・数学）、国語（Language Arts）、社会など、さまざまな教科を英語で学びます。
放課後プログラムは、通常の小学校と比べて授業時間が限られているため、年間で5～6教科程度を学習します。また、First Stepsで学ぶ期間中に同じ教科を繰り返し学ぶことがないよう配慮しています。さらに、第二言語として英語を学ぶための基礎をしっかりと築けるよう、「Spelling Challenge（スペリングチャレンジ）」や、主要な英語試験の合格を目指すレッスンも取り入れています。
毎日通っていただくことも、興味のある教科がある曜日だけ通っていただくことも可能です。また、年齢や英語力に適した学習環境を提供することも大切にしています。そのため、エレメンタリーコースは2つのグループに分けて授業を行い、適度な挑戦を感じながら成長できるようにしています。

- 週1回から週4回のプランでは、曜日が固定になります。レッスンの回数はそれぞれの曜日、年間44回ずつに設定されています。年間カレンダーの確認をお願いします。
- 固定の曜日以外にご利用されたい場合は、1時間1,100円の利用料金がかかります。

Our Elementary Course
We opened the Elementary Course in 2021, due to an increasing demand from our parents to continue providing an English education after they graduate from our Kindergarten. Our school is now home to Elementary School students aged 6 to 12 years old.
There may be many English schools in this culturally diverse city, however, we are confident that we provide the best environment for an English education in this area. One of the many reasons children shy away from speaking a foreign language is because after 6 years old, they start to gain self-awareness on a more complex level and also begin to become more conscious of their own surroundings. As soon as they realise there is little demand to utilise the language skill they possessed at an earlier developmental stage, children subconsciously recognise it as unnecessary as there is no practical need. At our school, we provide an environment for English speaking children to prevent language attrition (losing a language), which can happen as early as 6 months after the last time they used the language. Therefore, many of our students choose to come here 5 days a week to maintain fluency and enthusiasm by learning and playing with their peers and engaging with our teachers.

Montessori English 14:30~15:30
We believe that Montessori is the most effective method in improving and maintaining literacy among children. It encourages children to learn at their own pace, and afford a lot of one-on-one time with teachers. Every day, children complete their ‘work’, which consists of reading and writing materials. Each child sets individual goals which he or she will complete at his or her own pace.
Snack Time 15:00~15:30
As circumstances and schedules vary from child to child, snack time starts at 15:00 for those who arrive at our school before 15:00. Those who arrive after 15:00 may eat their snacks as soon as they arrive. Students bring their own snacks, but we also provide water and snacks for an additional cost for those who forget to bring their own.
Pre-lesson Activities 15:30~17:00
In addition to subjects typically taught in elementary school, we offer extracurricular activities integral to a child’s development. As a Montessori school, we believe that mixing age groups fosters a collaborative environment where older students mentor and support younger ones. This reinforces their knowledge and builds sympathy while the younger children receive tailored stimulation. After students arrive and finish their English work, everybody, regardless of age and English level, joins our pre-lesson activities to take a break from their studies and play in a controlled environment.
These activities allow students of different age groups to mingle and develop important social skills. Our teachers supervise these activities to help students express themselves whilst encouraging proactive, healthy competition.
Physical Activities
This activity focuses on stretching, play, and exercise in a safe and controlled environment. Activities include sport-based games, yoga, and teamwork exercises.
Tabletop Games
Tabletop games help children develop teamwork, critical thinking, fair play, and more. Our stable includes strategy games, reaction games, counting games, card, and concentration games, and can be played individually or in teams.
Arts and Crafts
Every Friday, students will be occupied with creating an art piece. This could be as simple as cutting, pasting and coloring to creating objects using art and crafts tools they usually don’t use.
Elementary Course lessons 17:00~18:20
Our Elementary Course lessons are not just your typical “English class”. Our lessons are designed to enrich the minds of young learners by providing subjects that are engaging and educational in the English language, just the way the subjects are taught in schools in North America such as History, Biology, Geography, STEM, Language Arts, Social Studies and many more. However, as this is an afterschool program, there is less time compared to elementary schools, therefore we teach around 5 to 6 subjects a year in total. We make sure that students never repeat subjects throughout the time they study at First Steps. We also added some lessons in our schedules that we believe will build a great foundation to learning English as a second language such as Spelling Challenge and lessons to pass prominent English exams.
Students may choose to come here everyday after school or on days we have subjects that are especially interesting to each individual. Kindergarten alike, the subjects are mostly based on the curriculum from the North American Montessori Center in Canada.
We divide our Elementary Course into two groups, each of which is tailored to the needs and abilities of students based on age and English ability. This ensures that our students learn in a comfortable but suitably challenging environment.

Supplementary Information
- There are 44 lessons for every subject throughout the year. Those who wish to join one to four times a week, must check our Elementary Course calendar and select the fixed day(s) you wish to join.
- An extra fee (1,100 yen/hour) will apply should you request to attend outside the fixed day(s).
- If for any reason, elementary school is closed, students may come during our operating hours (8:00~18:30). For further information, please inquire during our school tour.
